In 1969 I was an AF 2nd Lt assigned to Hickam AFB when the Apollo 11 crew was picked up at sea by the USS Hornet and taken to Pearl Harbor. From Pearl Harbor, their chamber was taken to Hickam AFB on a rail car. I watched President Nixon get off Air Force 1 and immediately went over to the railroad tracks where I suspected the astronauts would appear. I was the only one there and was able to get this shot. Michael Collins was in the window returning my salute. A couple of hours later, the president addressed them also through the window.
The camera and photography have been my primary means of creative expression for the past 35 years. During this period I photographed extensively all over the world in conjunction with the travels required by my careers. I retired in 2000 which gave me the time necessary to explore other forms of art such as drawing and painting. Today I use various mediums including oil, watercolor, gouache and ink. My paintings and drawings involve primarily man-made subjects however also animals, people and landscapes. I have received various awards and display my work in numerous local venues.
